What's it like to live in Cardiff by the Sea?

Cardiff by the Sea is a small beach community with a population of approximately 12,000 people. Nestled between Encinitas and Solana Beach, 25 miles north of the city of San Diego, residents enjoy living on hillsides with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean while still being able to commute to San Diego via interstates 805 and 5. Cardiff by the Sea is known for many of its excellent surf spots including Pipes, Tabletops, Seaside, Swamis, and the Cardiff Reef.
Cardiff offers a laid back atmosphere during the summer where visitors and residents are found partaking in water sports including surfing, boogey-boarding, kayaking, and body boarding. The Pacific Surfliner train runs alongside the beach community which consists mostly of residential properties.
The San Elijo Lagoon which lies South and East of Cardiff, is a haven for a variety of birds and is an ecological reserve administered by the San Diego County Parks.
The San Elijo State Beach is found North of the San Elijo Lagoon. Immaculate gardens can be found at the Self Realization Fellowship Retreat just north of San Elijo State Beach.
Cardiff State Beach is found south of the lagoon where you will find people of all ages discovering marine life in the southern most-tip. Surfing events and contests are held in the south side of Cardiff State Beach.
Cardiff is home to Yogi’s Sports Bar, known for its young active singles setting and great American Food. Yogi’s is located on San Elijo Avenue. On any weekend expect a large crowd, especially if a big game is on television. The Charthouse is another well known restaurant located in Cardiff where you can be delighted by the sound of the waves combined with exquisite surroundings igniting celebration or romance. It’s located on the water in Cardiff on South Highway 101. Some of the amazing seafood they serve includes, The Crab, Avocado and Mango Stack, Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi, and Australian Lobster Tail. Great menu! Don’t miss it!
