Pacific Beach has a population of approximately 46,000 people. Located North of Mission Beach and South of La Jolla, Pacific Beach is known for its amazing beaches, exciting nightlife, and breathtaking views of San Diego. There are many surf spots to enjoy, one of them being Tourmaline Beach. A 3 miles long paved Boardwalk is found from Crystal Pier all the way to the Jetty where you will find rollerbladers, bikers, and joggers.

Restaurants abound, shopping, and a certain bohemian style pervade the style and culture of Pacific Beach, CA. Some personal favorites include Nick’s at the Beach on Thomas at Mission Blvd. (great Fish menu with excellent service and low prices), Chateau Orleans on Turquoise Street (Authentic Creole and Cajun Cuisine, most nights with Live Music), and The Broken Yolk Cafe for great breakfasts (come early!!) on Garnet.

There are two major streets (East- West) that lead into the area –those being Garnet and Grand. At rush hours and on weekends, along with pretty much at all times during the summer, getting into and out of Pacific Beach can be challenging. It’s best to leave extra time to allow for slow moving traffic. Parking is another challenge. There are an abundance of residents that share living space and have roommates – after all everyone wants to spend very little and live near the beach. As such, parking is a premium. Some people rent their parking spaces – sometimes for as much as $100 or $200 per month! If you’re coming for dinner, find out in advance if the restaurant provides valet service or if they can recommend where to park. Don’t try to park for free at various parking lots associated with unrelated businesses – you WILL get towed.

Aside from these challenges, Pacific Beach has tremendous appeal, it is extremely clean, and offers good schools and has minimal crime. Budget permitting, you’ll definitely want to check out Pacific Beach before you decide on where to live in San Diego.

The neighborhood of Pacific Beach includes the zipcode(s) 92109 .
