What’s it like to live in La Jolla?

Located 15 minutes from downtown San Diego, La Jolla (meaning “The Jewel” in Spanish) features an exclusive and pleasant coastline and is often recommended as a travel destination for its beaches, food and art. La Jolla has a population of approximately 44,000. La Jolla is simultaneously both a cultural and luxury community offering a wide array of hotspots, attractions, institutes of higher learning, beaches, and famous residents. Home to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), a marine research institute that promotes marine ecology projects around the world, and the University of California San Diego, the town also emanates an educated and academic lifestyle. La Jolla has many art galleries, including the Museum of Contemporary Art which provides a display of cutting edge artistic emphasis to La Jolla.

When living or visiting La Jolla many people like to go to La Jolla Shores to enjoy the beach life. La Jolla Shores is great for swimming, watching the seals, or even participating in regularly scheduled scuba diving courses.

The Brockton Villa Restaurant offers a romantic setting in La Jolla with a view of the cove and an opportunity to see the sun set beneath the ocean. If you’re not familiar with the Brockton Villa, make a reservation, especially if you plan on eating there for breakfast. Brockton Villa serves incredible breakfast dishes as well special lunch sandwiches. Seafood is also served here along with micro-brewed beers and a full wine list.

Driving along Girard Avenue you will find the gorgeous garden-like sidewalk patio of Spice and Rice Thai Restaurant. Choose a meat and a sauce and get ready for a delicious experience. There are so many combinations to choose from and great specialties to suit any liking. The Gold Bags, much like dumplings, are very popular as well as the Golden Moon appetizer. Lastly, prices are very reasonable. You can easily get out the door under $11 a person.

Roppongi, is an extremely popular restaurant that serves a variety of Japanese and Chinese foods. Many customers like to sink their teeth into the tapas menu which includes smaller “tastes” like the China pot stickers or sea scallop sauté. The restaurant uses just about any fruit imaginable for its dishes along with a variety of meats and vegetables. Lastly a special dessert will dazzle your taste buds – possibly a crunchy almond brittle delight or a chocolate fixating decadence. It’s to die for!
